My story? A former collegiate runner back from the dead with unfinished business and sights set on qualifing for the 2028 U.S. Olympic trials.
This is my journey to the Trials.
This is my journey to the Trials.
Hello, I’m derek.
And I’m a Runner,
AGAIN.
After a 13-year hiatus from competitive running, I've rediscovered a passion I thought I'd left behind. A Division II cross-country scholarship athlete turned 'retired' runner, I swore I'd never lace up again. But a spontaneous challenge with my college teammates to run a sub-3 hour marathon reignited the fire. I went from the couch to a 2:33 marathon in five months. Now, I'm chasing a new, audacious goal: qualifying for the 2028 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Follow along as I navigate the daily challenges of elite running at age 35.

Half Marathon
Oklahoma City, OK
Following my Little Rock Marathon (2:33!), I'm ready to dial up the pace and focus on a speedy Half-Marathon. Goal is to break the 70 minute barrier, which will be a huge personal best.
And where better than Oklahoma City? It's practically my second home! I'm there for work all the time, and I love the food, the vibe, and the amazing friends I have there. I can't wait to run fast in a city I adore. Hope to see you there!
